Yards Bewing Company

An award-winning ale

ESA has taken home medals from the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Cup and Chicago's Real Ale Festival.

The original Yards ale is still our favorite.

Co-founders Tom and Jon poured ESA at the 1st Annual Philadelphia Craft Brew Festival in 1995 and never looked back.

Did you know that ESA was originally called Y.E.S.?

It stood for Yards Extra Special.

Beer delivery by horse and carriage?

That's right. Yards delivered our first shipment of ESA from the Kensington brewery to City Tavern by horse and carriage. We had to get a parade permit to do it. Giddyup!

Extra Special Ale

Our first-ever and most-beloved brew, ESA helped establish a following for cask-conditioned beer in the United States back in the ‘90s. East Kent Golding hops give this British-inspired ale a subtle spiciness, which complements the strong malt backbone. ESA is floral, earthy and smooth with hints of chocolate and caramel, rounding out this deep chestnut-colored ale.
